About KNVTS

We are the KNVTS: the Royal Dutch Society of Marine Engineers. We have been working on innovation and progress in maritime engineering since 1898. Back then as ‘Vereeniging van Werktuigkundigen ter Koopvaardij’, but in 1916 the association changed its name. On our 100th anniversary, to our great pride, we were awarded the predicate ‘Royal’. Since then, we have existed under our current name.

We are truly a members’ association: our members form the board, organise and contribute to lectures and activities, including the annual Ship of the Year Award and the Maritime Student Awards. It is all these enthusiastic members who together make KNVTS what it is: a broad and professional association where knowledge transfer and conviviality go hand in hand.

Activities

The KNVTS has an overarching main board and 4 regional divisions: Amsterdam, North Netherlands, Rotterdam and Zeeland. You can read more about these divisions here: Divisions of the KNVTS.

The main board consists of elected members and division representatives and oversees finances, board affairs and the organisation of our activities and awards. The board also keeps good contact with student associations, companies and research institutes in the maritime sector. The secretariat assists the main board with important administrative matters such as membership records and finances, and the practical organisation of our activities.
