General Membership Meeting 2024
On May 30, 2024 the General Members Meeting (ALV) was held by the KNVTS, this time the locations was Zeemanshoop in Amsterdam. After the meeting we were given a tour of the city, guided by board member on behalf of the Amsterdam chapter, Eric Schiphorst. The tour ended with a joint dinner.
After the adoption of the agenda followed the reflection on the members who lost us last year. The minutes of the previous ALV were adopted.
The past association year was characterized by returning to old normal with regular lectures in the departments. The Amsterdam department deviated slightly with some larger events including a mini symposium during the METS.
The association stepped up with SWZ publisher My Business Media (MBM) during Europort, with a joint booth at the show. We also received an Award from CEMT for being active for 125 years.
Unfortunately, we are faced with higher costs especially personnel costs and SWZ. This leaves us with a significant negative result. This leads to another contribution increase this year. Our goal is to be budget neutral in three years. This requires the necessary effort and solutions in cooperation. Thus we are now actively working together with KIVI MARTEC and talking with various other maritime organizations, of which there are many and we have compiled a long list. After approval of the financial statements and task-setting budget. Followed the discharge of the board.
Unfortunately, we are going to miss Willem Nugteren as an enthusiastic young treasurer on our board. We very much appreciated his tight policy and vision as a young engineer and regret that he is leaving our board. We wish him the best of luck and hope that he can find another such enthusiastic board member for the North Section. He would do his best for that. Thank you Willem.
Willem will be replaced by Cor van der Harst and Cor is warmly welcomed. Peter Whermeijer was re-elected again for a second term. His hard work is appreciated. Especially after the departure of our General Secretary, he is taking over. Hopefully we will find a General Secretary soon. Mr. Willem de Jong, always good for positive input, suggested if we could combine the position with duties of the Editor-in-Chief SWZ. The editor-in-chief will also be stepping down in not too long a time. We have already been able to achieve rejuvenation in the editorial staff. This has a lot of attention.
We have found new member René Zuidam willing to take on the Finance Committee duties with Mr. Selij.
After the fascinating tour by Eric Schiphorst through the old center we took our seats at the table at the Egelantier and concluded this ALV.2024.
