Very successful lustrum celebration 125 Years of KNVTS
The lustrum of the KNVTS was celebrated on May 11 with a symposium entitled “KNVTS takes soundings”. After the walk-in and lunch Ton Bos, chaiman of the KNVTS, welcomed the 200 attendees in the attractively decorated hall. Then keynote-speaker Volker Bertram discussed “green and smart” ships and shipping. Broadly speaking, he stated that the designs of the future ships will follow economic trends, legal constraints and technical possibilitieswith the overarching trends of CO2-reduction and digital transformation.
Theorie and practice
In order to further explore the topics of Sustainability and Digitization, both theoretically and practically, the attendees followed several sessions, divided over two rooms. The sessions covered alternative fuels, autonomy, wind assistance, smart maintenance, electric propulsion, digital twin, sustainable design and big data.
International touch
After a short summary of the day by Volker Bertram and Herbert Koelman, the KNVTS was surprised by Trevor Blakely, chairman of the CEMT. He presented a certificate in honor of 125 years KNVTS. Chairman Ton Bos took the floor and thanked everyone for a great day. A day that was chaired enthusiastically by Sietske de Geus (TU DELFT). Subsequently the drink started. While enjoying a snack and a drink, with the musical accompaniment of “The Rotterdams Shantykoor”, were made contacts and new contacts. The day ended in the evening with a dinnerbuffet. Having heard the reactions, all those present can look back with a good feeling on the celebration of reaching this milestone: 125 years of KNVTS with an international touch. KNVTS, connected by maritime technology!
