Visit to MARIN’s Seven Oceans Simulator Centre

On the lovely sunny afternoon of Thursday 25th of October a selected group of 55 members of KNVTS, KIVI Martec and WISTA were welcomed by MARIN to visit the new Seven Oceans Simulator centre.

After an introduction by Sylvia Boer, chairman of KNVTS Amsterdam and partner of Maritime Sisters, leaving MARIN President Bas Buchner gave us some insights in the capabilities and potential of the state-of-the-art simulator systems. Then he enjoyed his role as school teacher in dividing us in 5 groups for the tour guided by his colleagues amongst which his successors Olaf Waals and Hannes Bogaert.

Combining the large bridge simulator, the impressive dome motion simulator, the small boat simulators and VR/AR human activity simulators it became clear to all of us that, although this looks like an amazingly cool game, it is a safe environment with an excellent representation of reality in which to test, practice and develop new ideas. MARIN, but actually the whole Dutch maritime industry, can be proud of this technological feat which will contribute to secure that the Dutch maritime technological developments will remain at the global vanguard.
